Spin spin coupling
WebSep 20, 2024 · As we remember from quantum mechanics, an external magnetic field can split the energies of the spin-down and spin-up state, so that one is higher in energy and the other is lower. The size of represents how strong the field is, so it tells you how much higher in energy one spin is than the other. In nuclear chemistry and nuclear physics, J-couplings (also called spin-spin coupling or indirect dipole–dipole coupling) are mediated through chemical bonds connecting two spins. It is an indirect interaction between two nuclear spins that arises from hyperfine interactions between the nuclei and local electrons. In NMR spectroscopy, J-coupling contains information about relative bond distances and angles. Most importantly, J-coupling provides information on the connectivit…

WebDec 24, 2024 · Figure \(\PageIndex{3}\): Spin-orbit coupling is the interaction of an electron’s spin magnetic moment \(\vec{mu}_s\) with its orbital magnetic moment \(\vec{\mu}_l\). Electron Spin-Nuclear Spin Coupling (Hyperfine Structure) Just like an electron, a proton is spin 1/2 and has a magnetic moment. (According to nuclear theory, … WebSpin–orbit coupling forms the physical basis for quantum materials with non-trivial topology and potential spintronics applications. The Rashba interaction is a textbook model of spin–orbit interactions, with charge carriers undergoing linear, isotropic spin-splitting in momentum space. Recently, non-centrosymmetric semiconductors in the ...
