For in 1938 the great blues collector John Hammond, planning a Carnegie Hall concert, set off for the South to purchase the recordings of ‘Terraplane Blues’ (Johnson’s greatest hit) and ‘Last Fair Deal Gone Down’, also to locate Johnson.
